Yesterday's Accomplishments

Sometimes I work with people whose lives have come to a halt because of illness or a disability. They begin to feel unproductive and the past fades into the past. We are actually an accumulation of all of our life experiences. No one can ever take away our achievements and successes. It's important to look back over the great things we've accomplished throughout our lives and especially how we overcame adversity in the past. Those accomplishments give us the clues we need now to succeed.

We need to remember our strengths and the courage that it took to get to the place where we are today, even if we don't like where we are. As we age our goals and priorities change (I am finding). The dreams we had might become more simplified once we realize that the things we thought we wanted and go weren't really going to give us what we wanted afterall.

Children dream big and the elderly only dream of the past. Wherever you are in the life cycle your life matters most of all to you. We try to make sense of it and put meaning into our lives. The most important question we can ask ourselves is "how do I want to live out the remainder of my life?".
