DISTRACTIONS

I watch myself sometimes and see how easily I can get distracted from my focus. As soon as I set something up as a priority all the distractions appear and create a gap between me and my goal. Even when it's something simple that I've decided is a priority at that moment. I say to myself, "I have to get this done" and boom, all of a sudden there are so many other things that seem to need be done first.

Even when I'm conscious of what's happening I keep doing these other tasks and avoid the one I most need to be doing. I'm learning though, that once I identify what's happening, I have a choice to make. Either I drop everything else until I complete this one thing, or I don't. Once it becomes a choice I choose it over everything else. It takes discipline to overcome distractions and it's a daily battle. We set our own priorities, no one else does. When "I have to" becomes "I want to" everything changes.
