DAILY RITUALS

How do you change a daily ritual that you don't like and implement one that's healthy? Why do some people seem to stick to their commitments and others give up easily? Determination and drive are some of the factors. If you don't want something badly enough you probably won't stick to your plan. Self esteem is another. Many people have taught themselves to give up before they even try because they believe that they will disappoint themselves "again". They believe deep down that they can't achieve what they keep attempting to achieve.

Weight loss is a perfect example. The new year is a time when everyone promises to get to their goal weight this time but immediately the other voice says "you always try and you always fail, so why bother?"

Being disciplined allows for mistakes and slip ups. Rigidity doesn't. The commitment is the endpoint. The way you get there is by practicing daily rituals. Once you break your promise you need to get right back to it, holding the vision of your commitment in front of you. If you set your goal for a certain date and fall off course, get back on course. Don't ever give up your goal no matter what. If you aren't going to make it by your target date reassess the endpoint and the target date. Either you will have to speed up or you will give yourself more time to get there, but dropping out of the race is the worst thing you can do for your self esteem.

Take the time to reflect on every area of your life. Make sure your goals are really what you want and not what others want for you. If you spend your time chasing after someone else's dream then you're wasting your time and effort. Shifting gears takes courage and reflection.
