FILLING A VOID

When we are content with very little, we get very little. When we ask for more, of anything, we get more. It's great to be grateful for all that we have. If we aren't, we won't get more, and if we do, we won't appreciate it. For some people, all the "things" in the world and all the money aren't going to fill that void that they are trying desperately to fill. When someone is driven into a frenzy to reach a goal or attain certain heights, there is often something underneath that. What we don't get in love and emotional support, we try to replace with just about anything else. The place to start is with that dark emptiness inside. Many don't even know they have it because they have put layers and layers of bandages over it. They hide it from themselves and it is so deep and hidden that they didn't even know it was there. People who externally appear to be doing great and are busy, active and frantically filling their lives with appointments and social engagements are often the ones with the greatest emptiness inside. They just can't seem to fulfill that need for connection. Instead of window dressing the outside, which has it's advantages, too, it's important to attend also, to what is going on in your heart. There has to be the time and space for reflection. Often, people who have the biggest problem can't tolerate a minute of peace and quiet. Most of us fall in the middle somewhere.

How can you travel into your heart once you've created a quiet and peaceful space? When I tell people to "go within" or to "look inside" there are many who don't know how to do that. There is a lot of fear surrounding this.
