THIS TIME YOU'LL DO IT

We always have a chance to do things differently and make improvements in our lives. It takes drive, determination, discipline and belief in ourselves. Why do some give up while others reach their goals and succeed repeatedly? Why are some motivated while others aren't driven enough by their goals to reach them?

Past failures and disappointments leave us in a state of limbo. We can't move toward forward because then we risk disappointment. We can't stay where we are because it has become intolerable. Change occurs when we become so uncomfortable in a situation that we have no choice but to change it. Others might become uncomfortable with our situations long before we do.

There is often a "last straw" event. When it happens it could be trivial compared to all the other things that led up to it, but it is the final deal breaker. It's at that point that we make the decision to change. We finally say, "no more, I don't want to live this way anymore". Our friends then let out a sigh of relief because we are finally doing something good for ourselves.

How bad do things have to get before you are willing to turn down a different road? Are you waiting until you can make the changes in a perfect way and therefore, stopping yourself from making the changes? Can you allow yourself to make some mistakes along the way and give yourself credit for your effort?

Perfectionists never reach their goals and are rarely happy people. They can't enjoy the ride. Nothing is ever good enough done by them or for them. Wanting to achieve our goals with perfection can prevent us from taking even the first step toward them.

Identify the goal that you really want and allow yourself to go for it. Ignore the negative self talk that says, "but you've tried it before and it didn't work". Replace that voice with statements like "I've learned from each mistake so far and I'm ready to succeed this time. What has to happen this time, that never happened last time, in order for you to succeed? Often it's just not giving up.
