CAN I AFFORD IT?

Can you afford it? This is an interesting question. When do you say no and when do you say yes? How is it that sometimes we can't afford something that would benefit us but we are able to come up with the money for something else that doesn't have lasting value?

If we deny ourselves for a long time or neglect to take care of what's most important, the needs accumulate. Then we might turn to things that make us feel better but don't truly nurture us. Have you ever noticed that when you didn't pay for something that was really worthwhile, you paid for it later in one way or another?

Here are some examples:
Preventive Health
Preventive health starts with the foods you eat and exercise. There is no way around it. It DOES NOT START with an appointment to have a mammogram a routine physical. Just because you went to see a doctor doesn't mean that actually did something to make you healthier. The tests that doctors order are to detect problems early, the tests don't prevent you from getting sick in the first place.
Cutting back on the foods and supplements that will make you and keep you healthy is not a wise decision. In the long run, you will save a lot of money just by staying healthy.

Some areas that it doesn't pay to be cheap about are:

Health
Education
Saving for Retirement
Paying more to have a home that feels safe and secure

If we rethink how we're spending the money that we do have, the returns will be great. Giving up immediate gratification can create the long term results that we really want.
