VISUALIZATIONS AND GUIDED IMAGERY

Guided imagery is a powerful tool that can change your patterns using metaphors. For instance, after speaking with a client about how isolated she was feeling since moving to another state the image I used with her was of strings coming out of her heart center and connected her to all the people in her life. Actually her isolation turned out to be an illusion. Many people were still actively involved in her life from a distance. The strings were a symbol of the connection that existed between her and those she loved. It also could be used to attract future friends and contacts. This was a small portion of the whole visualization. Once you invite something new into your life inwardly the wheels start turning to bring it to you. Placing your intention on a goal is a very powerful act. She found that her life began to change after that session. Activities were leading to positive outcomes and new friends came into her life. The same client described a pattern that carried over in all of her relationships including her relationships with her employer and her family members. She found it very hard to stand up to them, to make her needs known and then to accept the consequences of her actions if they became angry and upset. She worked very hard to avoid making anyone angry. This resulted in her feeling frustrated most of the time. It takes a lot of energy to make sure that everyone else is happy while you are stewing with resentment inside. The image that came to me while she was describing how constricting these relationships were and how mute she becomes around these people, was that of a thick rope tied tightly around her entire body from her neck down and something preventing her from speaking such as tape. This represented what she was feeling on a daily basis. I told her to imagine herself wrapped tight in this rope and unable to speak because of the tape over her mouth. Actually that was close to how she felt most of the time. To move beyond these feelings I had her imagine the rope slowly unraveling and the tape being gently removed. All changes should be done carefully and in stages. By the end of the session she felt freedom in her body. She told me that the image of constriction was exactly how her body had become only she hadn't realized it before. She went from feeling constricted and mute to feeling freedom in her body and clarity in her voice in just one session. This illustrates how quickly one visualization can effect a change. She found later that this translated into her daily life. She is now working on those issues and there are noticeable changes in her relationships. You might wonder how it is that I can work this way. For many years I've conducted groups and individual sessions with enlightened people like yourself. From these experiences I have learned what works best. I am able to get images in my mind as a client speaks about what is going on in their life. I'm listening for patterns and themes. To practice this yourself think about what you are trying to create. Keep it simple and start small. Try to get an image or a feeling around this goal or dream. Let the images develop from there. You don't have to force anything. If you are listening inwardly you will get guidance rather than trying to manipulate an outcome. If you are trying to remove blocks around issues such as relationships, attaining success or advancement in your career you can create your own image of something being blocked and becoming unblocked. One image that I use for prosperity is that of a dam building up pressure. The water pressing against the dam represents the abundance, money and love that is trying hard to come into your life but you are blocked from receiving it. Suddenly the dam breaks and waves of the abundant water flows over you and through you. Feel what it feels like to receive that much. Take in as much as you can. If you practice just this one exercise daily, you will notice a difference in your life. Write down anything that seems to be related. If you meet someone new, run into an old friend or recieve an unexpected check in the mail, write it down. After one month compare your life at the beginning of the 30 days with the way it becomes at the end of the 30 days.
